Suspect Caught After I-83 Closure: PA State Police (Update)

A manhunt in York County is over, Pennsylvania State Police announced around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023.

UPDATE:

A suspect has been apprehended following a manhunt that shut down part of Interstate 83 for nearly 8 hours. 

The unidentified man was taken into custody near mile marker 5 in Shrewsbury Township near I-83, according to Pennsylvania State Police, Troop J.

"There is currently no danger to the public," police said. 

No additional details were shared.

Police activity has closed part of Interstate 83, authorities told Daily Voice.

A search for a man has shuttered one lane of I-83 southbound, towards Maryland on Monday, June 5, 2023.

The area closed Loganville to Glen Rock exits, according to PennDOT.

Trooper James Grothey told Daily Voice the following about the situation:

"PSP is conducting a search in the Loganville/Shrewsbury area for a suspect who fled from a traffic stop. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants. The male is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds. The male is in his early 20s and may be armed with a handgun."

The State Police are the public to use caution in the area. If the suspect is seen, do not approach and contact 911 or PSP York immediately. Anyone who has any information on this incident is asked to contact PSP York at 717-428-1011.
