7-Month-Old PA Baby Dies Of Fentanyl Overdose While In Grandma's Care: Authorities

A Pennsylvania infant has died from acute fentanyl toxicity, authorities announced on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

The announcement comes two months after 7-month-old Zhuri Sade Bogle was found unresponsive in her bed in the 8100 block of Chaske Street, Penn Hills on January 14, 2023, at 6:44 a.m., according to the release. 

"When first responders arrived, they found Zhuri’s father performing CPR. First responders took over, but at 7:05 a.m. she was pronounced deceased at the scene," Allegheny County officials stated in the release. "Detectives learned Zhuri was in the care of her grandmother and grandmother’s friend the prior evening. Zhuri was already put to bed when her parents arrived home on the evening of January 13th."

The announcement comes after the Allegheny County Medical Examiner learned her cause of death, now, detectives are consulting with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office for a charging decision, according to the release.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477).

"This was a wholly unexpected and devasting occurrence that forever changed the lives of Zhuri's parents and other loved ones," Shaunda McDill wrote on a GoFundMe page she organized to help the family. "To bury a loved one is not an easy task; it is a strain mentally, emotionally, and financially. Please support Zhuri's parents, Mercedes and Barrington, during their time of need and lift them in prayer, with light and love."

Her visitation followed by her funeral was held at Coston Funeral Home located at 3313 Brighton Road, Pittsburgh, 15212 starting at 10 a.m. on Feb. 7, 2023, according to her official obituary

She was buried at Uniondale Cemetery, according to her obituary. You can see the pink, glitter, ribbon, and floral-clad horse-drawn carriage bringing her to the cemetery, and the doves being released when she was buried in the video player below.
