Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx.

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Former Football Star Charged In Elmwood Park Cellphone Robbery -- After Returning To Store UPDATE: Once considered one of the top high school football prospects in the country, a now-34-year-old Paterson man was charged with Friday's strong-armed robbery of cellphones from an Elmwood Park Verizon store. Orange County Pair Busted With Heroin, Suboxone, Police Say Police arrested two Orange County men who they said were carrying heroin and suboxone when they were stopped in New Jersey. The driver, Lucas Sacher, 34, of Chester and his passenger, Michael Pollets, 34, of Middletown were charged with drug possession and released after the stop in Fair Lawn, police said. Fair Lawn is just north of Paterson -- a notorious source of street heroin -- and a drive of 45 minutes to an hour from Orange County.

Sister From Dominican Order, 81, Cited After Crashing Car Into Franklin Lakes House UPDATE: An 81-year-old member of the Dominican Sisters who was behind the wheel of a ministry-owned car that ripped a hole in the side of a Franklin Lakes home on Christmas morning received a careless driving summons, authorities said. Update: ICE Detainer Slapped On Hillsdale Stolen Car Thief Who Crashed In WTP Federal authorities issued a detainer on a 21-year-old Guatemalan national living in Hillsdale who led police on a chase that ended in a crash Thursday night in Washington Township. Ronald Gabriel Xiloj Alvarado remained held Friday in the Bergen County Jail on charges out of both towns that include theft and resisting arrest. Tenafly Swim Instructor, 23, Charged With Sexually Abusing Pre-Teen A swim instructor from Tenafly “engaged in sexual acts” with a pre-teen over the course of two years, authorities charged. Kevin Guo, a 23-year-old Tenafly High School and Ramapo College graduate, wrote on lessons.com that he worked at Tenakill and gives private lessons. Authorities: Discarded Cigarette Caused Fire That Killed Montvale Woman, 77 UPDATE: A fire that killed a 77-year-old Montvale widow in her home last weekend was ignited by a discarded cigarette, authorities said Friday. Blue Skies At Night (Video): NJ Sees Glow Cast By Con Ed Transformer Explosion In Queens The glow from a transformer explosion Thursday night in Queens could be seen from New Jersey.
