The out-of-state man's 9mm pistol was discovered in his carry-on bag in the checkpoint X-ray machine on Thursday, June 16, TSA officials said. It was loaded with 13 bullets, including one in the chamber.

An additional loaded gun magazine was also among his belongings.

TSA officers confiscated the gun and detained the man for questioning before citing him, they said. The man — whose name has not been released — is expected to face a financial penalty.

“Bringing a deadly weapon such as a loaded handgun to a security checkpoint is a very serious offense,” said Gerardo Spero, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Philadelphia International Airport.

“Travelers are responsible for the contents of their bags.”

This is the 16th gun caught at Philadelphia International Airport checkpoints this year, according to the TSA.
