Uncle, Nephew ID'd In Head-On Crash On RT 74, York Co. Coroner Says

The two men who died at the scene of a head-on crash in York County on Wednesday, Jan. 25, have been identified, authorities announced on Thursday.

Andrew Smucker, 43, of the 300 block of Clay Street in Lancaster was driving his uncle Benuel Smucker Jr., 77, of the 2000 block of Horseshoe Road in East Lampeter Township when a woman driving north on Delta Road/Route 74 crossed over into the men's southbound lane for an unknown reason striking them head-on at 1:52 p.m., according to a release by the York County coroner's office.

Troopers from Troop J - York Station were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash with entrapment on Delta Road at the intersection of Bridgeton Road, Lower Chanceford Township, at 1:56 p.m., according to a release from Pennsylvania state police. 

Delta Road at Bridgeton Road was closed for several hours as state police investigated the crash.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, state police say. 

Both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and autopsies have been scheduled for Friday morning, the coroner details in the release.

The men's next of kin has been notified.
