Born in Cameroon, Dr. Zama immigrated to the states when he was 14 and has worked at several state hospitals including Aria Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, York Hospital in York, Guthrie and Arnot Health, and Pocono Heart and Vascular Institute in East Stroudsburg, ABC reports.

Dr. Zama describes himself as an “ardent supporter of educational, technological, business and healthcare excellence,” his campaign website says.

“For too long, Pennsylvania has been sick,” he said. “Our economy, schools, and healthcare system have been broken for years while Harrisburg remains in a coma.

“I am running for governor to lead the charge and address these and other ills confronting this great Commonwealth.”

One of Dr. Zama’s main priorities is to ensure Pennsylvania residents realize the importance of education.

“Pennsylvania should be the leader in education; unfortunately, we have fallen behind,” he said. “I want to work with our great teachers to provide every child in our commonwealth access to resources and opportunities to prepare them for a better future.”

Healthcare reform is also on Dr. Zama’s agenda; particularly, making medical treatment more accessible and affordable to “vulnerable” groups.

“It is heartbreaking when, for financial reasons, someone must choose between buying the medication they need and feeding their family,” he said.

“We will exploit every opportunity to lower healthcare costs and deliver the best outcomes to everyone, especially our most vulnerable: the elderly, veterans, our children and the economically disadvantaged among us.”

At the same time, Dr. Zama has strategies to “chart a new course in business support” through the “high-performance teams” of his administration.

“As governor I will embark on aggressive strategies to address any existing business inequities and direct appropriate resources to uplift and support them,” he said.
