Shane McCracken, 39, of Lancaster, was spotted by an officer with the Quarryville police department who was on patrol near the Turkey Hill located at 265 West State Street Quarryville on Dec. 30 around 8:30 p.m., according to a release by police.
The officer looked up the vehicle's license plate and learned it was stolen.
When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, McCracken gave chase onto roadways patrolled by state troopers, who took over the pursuit, according to the release.
At one point, McCracken struck a state police car, disabling it, according to the release.
That's when Quarryville police resumed the pursuit, which led them across the Norman Wood Bridge on State Route 372, police say.
But when the vehicle briefly went out of the officer's view the man fled into the woods, according to the release.
A passenger in the vehicle was detained for questioning while a police K9 was utilized to track the suspect, police say.
The search went cold but he was subsequently arrested on a warrant.
McCracken has been charged with the following according to his court docket:
- F2 Aggravated Assault - Fear of Imminent serious bodily injury designated individuals
- M2 Simple Assault
- F3 Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Officer
- S Careless Driving S Exceed 55 MPH In Other Location By 30 MPH
- S Failure To Stop At Red Signal (5 Counts)
- S Failure To Stop At Red Signal
- S Disregard Traffic Lane (Single)
He has been held in the Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $100,000 in bail, according to his court docket.
His formal arraignment has been scheduled for Mar. 11 at 9 a.m., according to his court docket.
