Nearly two pounds of meth was seized, along with bags of crack cocaine and thousands of dollars when police raided the home of an accused drug dealer in Berks County, authorities said.

Jonathan R. Smith, 31, was arrested following the warranted search of his Endlich Avenue home in Mt. Penn on Thursday, June 9, the Berks County District Attorney's Office said.

An investigation began in May when detectives with the DA's office identified Smith as a “street-level” dealer who was selling cocaine in Reading, they said.

Investigators discovered that, while he was selling drugs in Reading, he was living and storing them in a house in Mt. Penn, the DA's office said.

The search of the home turned up the following:

  • 881 grams (1.9 pounds) of suspected bulk methamphetamine
  • 11 grams of suspected “crack” cocaine
  • 84 bags of suspected crack cocaine
  • 13 grams of suspected “powder” cocaine
  • Eight bags of suspected powder cocaine
  • Six MDMA (ecstasy) pills
  • $8,489 in cash believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales
  • Paraphernalia including scale and packaging material

The total value of the drugs was estimated to be more than $47,000, detectives said.

Smith was charged with the following:

  • Possession with the intent to deliver (methamphetamine & cocaine)
  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine & cocaine)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was taken to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Center where he is awaiting arraignment by the on-duty Magisterial District Judge.
