FBI Investigating Threats Toward 15 PA School Districts Made On Snapchat

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating after fifteen school districts were threatened and thirteen schools have temporarily closed due to threats made on Snapchat, according to school officials.

The threats were first made on Snapchat and the echoed on other social media outlets on Monday, Nov. 29, according to school administrators in the Pittsburgh area.

Some of the districts affected were McKeesport Area Schools, North Hills School District, Pittsburgh Public Schools, and Propel Charter Schools, as stated in a report by KDKA.

North Hills School District administrators said in a Facebook post that investigators told them the threat was “deemed not credible,” specifically citing the Ross Township police.

Pittsburgh Public added security at South Hills Middle School and Brashear High School in the form of Pittsburgh police so the district could remain open, KDKA reports.

Pittsburgh Public was closed on Monday and was learning remotely on Monday due to COVID-19, according to statement released by administrators.

All 13 Propel Schools closed and switched to remote learning for Nov. 30, according to a statement sent by Propel administrators to students' families, saying the move was made “out of an abundance of caution.”

Pittsburgh police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are continuing to investigate the threats.
