Keith Carroll was shot and killed by troopers after he walked out of his Jackson Township home armed with a handgun Thursday, June 23, Pennsylvania State Police said.
Troopers were called to the home on High Point Drive around 8 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from Carroll's wife, who said her husband is depressed and had locked himself in a bedroom, police said.
He was armed with a pistol, she claimed, and was threatening to kill himself and shoot at the police.
When troopers spoke to Caroll, they said he appeared to be drunk and continued to make the same threats.
In response, troopers from PSP Fern Ridge and PSP Stroudsburg responded to the scene and established a perimeter, as was a state police Special Emergency Response Team.
Negotiations continued until around 10 p.m. when Carroll walked out of his home armed with a 9mm handgun, police said. Then an unspecified number of troopers shot and hit him.
Carroll was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
As per protocol, the officer-involved shooting is still being investigated by state police and the Monroe County District Attorney's Office.
