Conestoga Valley School District officials canceled classes at Gerald G. Huesken Middle School due to a "specific threat" made sometime on Thursday night, Superintendent Dave Zuilkoski wrote in a letter to parents.

Details about the threat were not released and the school was only closed "in an abundance of caution," Zuilkoski said.

The district has notified East Lampeter Township Police Department.

"This threat has not yet been determined to be credible or legitimate," the police said in a statement released after in the afternoon.

"Officers have been on site and the building is secure. The East Lampeter Township Police continues to work with school officials to investigate this crime and to help ensure the safety of the Conestoga Valley School District community including students, faculty, and visitors," the police said. They added that they are "releasing any specifics regarding the threat so as not to impede the on-going criminal investigation."
