The man pictured supposedly had approached the two youngsters heading to Andrew Buchanan Elementary School around 8:40 a.m., according to the police release.

He "reportedly told the young students their mother requested he walk them to school, but the mother of these students indicated she did not request this, and she was unsure who the person was," police said on March 9.

Prior to approaching the students on South Sixth Street, he had been running east on Lincoln Way East, the police detailed in the original release.

The Chambersburg Area School District contacted the police and both entities were trying to identify the man, although the police note, "the person shown in the photo is a person of interest but not necessarily a suspect at this time."

Since the alleged incident happened, the man identified himself and came to the Chambersburg police department on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

"Any suspiciousness has been investigated and after further investigation, it was revealed that the incident did not occur as it was originally reported," the police stated in an updated release sent to Daily Voice on Tuesday, March 14. "This was an isolated incident and the public is not in danger in anyway."
