Multiple People Injured In Explosion During Training Exercise At SCI Phoenix Prison: Officials

Multiple people were injured Thursday, Sept. 15 when an explosion occurred during a training exercise at SCI Phoenix prison in Montgomery County, officials said.

The accident happened around 9:50 a.m. at the prison in Skippack Township, a county spokesperson confirmed to Daily Voice.

Members of the county bomb squad were installing an explosive device for a later training exercise when it exploded prematurely, according to 6abc.

The extent of the injuries was not immediately known, however, officials say multiple people were taken to the hospital.

The FBI is handling the investigation.
