Halle, known as @bertsbeess on TikTok, woke up with a skin rash on her face and chest on Sunday, June 26, but it took her five days to find a doctor who would take her suspicion that it could be Monkey Pox seriously.
After multiple rounds to primary care physicians, calls to the Center For Disease Control, and a dermatologist cancelling her appointment, on Friday, July 1, the 24-year-old finally got tested, officially got her diagnosis, and treatment at Central Outreach Wellness Center in Pittsburgh’s North Shore, ironically where the first case in the city was diagnosed.
She says this shows three major issues with the US medical system:
- The CDC is not sure what the are doing, and she compares it to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic
- Doctors are not informed about the disease
- Many doctors are refusing to see patients who might have Monkey Pox
She warns tht the medical system is broken and unprepared of this disease.
There are over 750 cases of Money Pox and it's in nearly ever US state, according to a CDC update posted on Monday, July 11.
The announced more providers and tests being offered starting the same day, according to a statement by CDC director Rochelle Walensky said in a statement.
