Child Abuser Gets Drunk With Kids Unbelted In Car, Crashing In Chambersburg: Police

A convicted child abuser got drunk and hopped behind the wheel of a car— with two children not using seatbelts, boosters, or car seats in the back— then he crashed into a utility pole in Chambersburg, police announced on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Shane Arnaz Hockenberry Jr., 27, slammed his vehicle into a utility pole on the 500 block of Woodstock Road at around 5:38 p.m. on March 1, 2023, according to the police. 

After the investigation, it was determined that the two children were not secured in the vehicle Hockenberry was taken into custody and was soon discovered to be under the influence of alcohol, the police explained in the release. 

He was charged with a felony and a misdemeanor for endangering the welfare of a child, DUI, and a summary charge for restraint systems - child booster seat, the police said and court records confirmed. 

Hockenberry is currently incarcerated in SCI Smithfield, according to the police. 

His preliminary hearing is set before Magisterial District Judge Glenn Kenneth Manns on March 15, 2023, at 2:30 p.m., according to his latest court docket.

Hockenberry was already convicted in a jury trial of aggravated assault -of a victim less than six and the defendant 18 or older, simple assault, and endangering the welfare of children - parent/guardian, or other commits offense, in 2016 for a 2014 incident, court records show. 

He served 88 days of a six to 60-month sentence for the charges. His sentencing also required him to never drink alcohol again, "The defendant may NOT CONSUME any beverage containing alcohol or any controlled substance, unless lawfully prescribed, and shall submit to random urinalysis, breath or blood testing to ensure compliance," as stated in the records. 

He also was not supposed even go near children after the 2014 incident let alone have them in his vehicle, "The defendant shall have NO UNSUPERVISED CONTACT with anyone under the age of 18," the court record details.
