Gabriel Cooper, Nasir Youk, and Siniyah Newsuan died when the vehicle they were in crashed in the 300 block of Ridge Pike in Limerick Township at approximately 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, according to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele.
The incident began minutes earlier, at 9:06 p.m., when Limerick Police were called to the Target store in Royersford for a reported theft in progress. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle associated with the case, but the driver fled, Steele said.
The car crashed a short time later, killing Cooper, Youk, and Newsuan. A fourth passenger, a 15-year-old male, was taken to Temple University Hospital with serious injuries.
In a letter to families, Owen J. Roberts Superintendent Will Stout said, “It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter and let you know that earlier this morning we learned that there was a fatal car accident last evening involving Owen J. Roberts High School students.”
“We are saddened to share that two of our Owen J. Roberts High School students and a former student passed away as a result of this incident. In addition, a fourth individual, who is also an OJR student, was seriously injured,” the district said in a statement.
Grief counseling has been made available for students and their families.
“Please keep our fellow Owen J. Roberts High School families in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time,” Stout added.
Montgomery County Detectives are continuing to investigate the crash.
