5 Teens Arrested In Philadelphia Carjacking Of Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon

Delaware State Police have arrested five suspects hours after the gunpoint carjacking of Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon in South Philadelphia, authorities said Wednesday.

Police recovered the 2017 Blue Acura MDX belonging to Rep. Scanlon around 9 p.m. at 2800 Fashion Center Boulevard in Newark, Delaware State Police said.

Her car was stolen by two armed men after a meeting around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in FDR Park on Pattison Avenue, her office said in a statement.

Her personal cell phone, government cell phone, purse, and identification were also taken by the suspects, according to authorities and 6abc.

The suspects were identified as Wilmington, DE residents Josiah Brown, 19, a 14-year-old girl, and three boys ages 13, 15, and 16, 6abc reports citing police.

The suspects were transported back to Delaware State Police for processing. 

The investigation is ongoing.
