Emergency crews responded to the northbound lanes of I-81 near the Interstate 78 split in Union Township at 10:35 a.m., according to officials.

The tractor-trailer veered off the road into the bushes and was damaged beyond repair, requiring the prefab mobile home to be broken apart and removed in pieces, PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler said. The cleanup effort is expected to last until 5 p.m., Schreffler added.

Adding to the traffic woes, a multi-vehicle crash at mile marker 3 on Interstate 78 westbound is now blocking both lanes, authorities said. Traffic is being rerouted to the shoulder to bypass the incident.

Schreffler also noted foggy, rainy conditions in the area earlier in the day, though no official causes of the crashes have been determined.

Earlier in the day, PennDOT reported multiple incidents in the area, including a multi-vehicle crash on I-81 northbound 3.6 miles north of Exit 90 to PA-72 Lebanon. Three crashes have since been cleared, but lane restrictions and delays persisted as of 3 p.m.

No injuries have been reported in any of the incidents, according to Schreffler.

Both 81 and 78 fully reopened around 4 p.m.
