The crash happened on Path Valley Road at its intersection with Dry Run Road in Fannett Township around 5:40 p.m. on Friday, May 23, police said in the release.

Nathaniel Sanders, of East Waterford, was riding a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound when he attempted to pass a buggy also heading south. As the buggy began turning left onto Dry Run Road, the motorcycle hit the side of it, troopers explained.

The impact threw Sanders from his motorcycle and ejected both the buggy’s driver and passenger—Menno and Elizabeth Swarey of Dry Run, police said.

All three were flown from the scene with suspected serious injuries.

On Friday, June 6, the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Elizabeth Swarey, 68, died from injuries suffered in the crash. She passed away at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital.

Sanders was airlifted to Hershey Medical Center by ChristianaCare/LifeNet. Menno Swarey was also hospitalized at Holy Spirit.

State police said Sanders was wearing a helmet. No safety equipment was used in the buggy.

He was cited for violating no-passing zones. Both vehicles had to be cleared from the road.

Just one day after her death was reported, another deadly crash on Path Valley Road killed two men in a head-on collision on the morning of Saturday, June 7, state police said.
