Nathan Stepler was riding his 2002 Kawasaki 600 motorcycle on Lurgan Road — when he slammed on his breaks in an attempt to avoid crashing into Ralph Baylor, 72, of Newburg's 2021 Jeep as it turned left onto the road from Roxbury Road, state police explained.
Unfortunately, Nathan became airborne and his body struck the side of the Jeep around 6:11 a.m. on Sept. 12, troopers detailed.
Baylor was wearing his seatbelt and was unharmed. Even though Nathan was wearing protective gear, including a helmet, he sustained fatal injuries, according to the release.
Nathan was born in Fort Hood, Texas on Wednesday, July 28, 1993, according to his obituary.
After moving to Pennsylvania he attended Trinity High School and was a class of 2011 graduate from Shippensburg Area Senior High School, according to his Facebook profile. He went on to work as a level two maintenance technician for Schreiber Foods and part-time for MJ Recycling and Swailes Dairy Farm, as detailed in his obituary.
He was passionate about his farm work and often posted photos with the dairy cows.
He was an avid outdoorsman who was a member of the Dry Run Rod & Gun Club and the Mountain Green Hunting Club, according to his obituary.
He liked to spend his spare time working on his vehicles and playing Call of Duty., as stated in his obituary
He'll always be remembered for his love and loyalty to his friends and family. One friend noted in a Facebook post that "he drove HOURS just to see me for my birthday but at any time I could've called him and he'd have answered unlike so many friends/family."
Nathan is survived by his wife Becky (Swailes); parents Kimberly Ferrell and Patrick Stepler; three sisters, Kristen Ferrell, Heather Stepler, and Hanah Ferrell; five nieces and nephews; and grandparents, Charles and Diana Ferrell and Peggy and Ron Stepler, and numerous friends, according to his obituary.
A celebration of life will be held at Hammond’s Grove: Path Valley Picnic Grounds on the stage from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023.
