Girl, 16, Caught With Loaded Gun During Traffic Stop In Watervliet, Police Say

A routine traffic stop in the Capital Region ended with a 16-year-old girl in handcuffs on weapons charges.

Watervliet Police stopped a vehicle at around 5 p.m. Sunday, March 23. During the investigation, the officer determined that the 16-year-old girl driving did not have a valid driver’s license.

The officer then discovered a loaded, illegally-possessed 22 caliber handgun protruding from the waistband of a 16-year-old girl in the passenger’s seat, police said.

The passenger, a resident of Troy, was arrested on suspicion of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony. She was arraigned in Watervliet City Court and released with an appearance ticket to Family Court.

Police charged the teen driver with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor, and other traffic violations.
