NJ Pilot ID'd In Fiery Plane Crash At Kobelt/Walkill Airport (Update) An 80-year-old pilot from New Jersey was killed when his small plane crashed at a Hudson Valley airport on Saturday, Sept. 27, state police said in an update. Gerald "Jerry" Cotter, 80, of Milford (Hunterdon County), was attempting to take off from Kobelt/Wallkill Airport in Shawangunk, NY when the small plane crashed and caught fire around 2:25 p.m., NYSP said. Cotter, who was the only person on board, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified. The investigation is ongoing.

Downed Pole, Brush Fire Closes Route 9W Stretch In NY: Here's Where To Avoid A stretch of Route 9W in Rockland County is expected to remain closed through the overnight hours on Friday, July 25, after a downed utility pole forced emergency repairs and traffic detours.  The closure began at around 3 p.m,, when northbound Route 9W was shut down between Route 304 and Short Clove Road in Haverstraw, according to Clarkstown Police. Orange & Rockland crews are currently on the scene working to repair the damage. Major Brush Fire In Hudson Valley Spreads Smoke For Miles A major brush fire over at least a dozen acres in the Hudson Valley produced smoke that spread across the New York border into Connecticut. Large Brush Fire Erupts In Hudson Valley Near Country Club Several fire and police departments are battling a large brush fire near a country club in the Hudson Valley.  The fire began in Putnam County on Thursday, Oct. 24 around 11:30 a.m. in the area of Golf Ridge Road and China Circle Court near the Sedgewood Club golf course in the town of Kent, the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services announced around 12:45 p.m.  Several departments are now operating at the scene of the fire.
