Rockland Cook Charged With Sexually Assaulting Child In Bergen
A cook from Rockland was arrested this week on charges of sexually assaulting a pre-teen in Bergen County several years ago, authorities said. Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said John Mark Dillon, 60, who currently lives in Piermont, sexually assaulted the youngster at least twice in Northvale, where records show he’d previously lived. The prosecutor didn’t provide dates. Dillon remained held in the Rockland County Correctional Center in New City, pending extradition to New Jersey, following his arrest in Orangeburg on Monday, Feb. 26. Man Jumps To Death From Bear Mountain Bridge
A 48-year-old man jumped to his death from a Hudson Valley bridge. The incident took place on Friday, Nov. 10 at the Bear Mountain Bridge near in the town of Cortlandt in Northern Westchester County. According to New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks, New Jersey resident Aleksey P. Mikhaylov, of Northvale, was located and pronounced dead at the scene. No signs of foul play were discovered at this time, Hicks said. The Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office was on scene for the investigation.

Stony Point Driver Found Passed Out, Vehicle Running, With Drugs, Booze, Loaded Gun, Police Say
A Stony Point driver who was found passed out with the motor running Wednesday morning in a park near the Rockland border was carrying a loaded handgun, authorities said. Officers responding to a 7:45 a.m. call found Jeremy T. Garcia, 22, out cold behind the wheel -- either from drugs or alcohol, Northvale, NJ Police Chief Howard Ostrow said. They smelled burnt marijuana and saw prescription drugs on the passenger seat, he said. The officers woke Garcia after several attempts, after which he filed field sobriety tests, the chief said. UPDATE: A 6-year-old Rockland boy was hospitalized after falling 25 feet from a rock climbing wall at a Bergen County recreational facility at the New Jersey/New York border, authorities said. AirMed One flew the boy to Hackensack University Medical Center after landing at Hogan Park, less than a mile from High Exposure Rock Climbing, Ninja Warrior, Nerf and Parkour on Union Street in Northvale on Saturday, they said. Man With Driving Privileges Revoked In New York Charged With Felony DWI In Rockland Stop
An allegedly intoxicated driver in Rockland County is facing multiple felony charges for driving with his driving privileges revoked in New York, police said. An Orangetown Police officer on patrol on Dutch Hill Road in Orangeburg shortly before 4 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, stopped the driver of a 2006 Volkswagen for vehicle and traffic violations. Propane Gas Leak At Storage Tank On Route 303 Causes Road Closures
A stretch of Route 303 was shut down for several hours in Rockland County as first responders dealt with a leaking propane storage tank, police said. First responders were dispatched to the Beckerle Lumber Supply Company on Route 303 in Orangeburg shortly after 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17. Upon arrival, it was determined that a large propane storage tank that is used to fill smaller propane tanks was leaking gas. Missing Rockland Hikers Found, Firefighter Treated
A firefighter had to be treated for an undetermined injury after rescuers found four Rockland County hikers who’d become lost in the woods late Saturday night after crossing into New Jersey, responders said. One of the missing hikers was found near the Boy Scout camp in Alpine after they became lost in the Alpine-Rockleigh area, they said. Firefighters from Closter, Harrington Park, Old Tappan, Norwood and Northvale joined their colleagues from Orangetown in the search. The injured firefighter was taken to HUMC Pascack Valley Medical Center in Westwood.

An Old Tappan family was displaced by an early-morning fire that destroyed their newly-renovated home the day after Christmas. Homeowner Angelo Mazza said he awoke Wednesday around 7 a.m. to the smell of smoke and quickly got his wife, sister-in-law, 1-year-old twin boys and their dog out of the house. A Bergen County ShopRite sold a winning Jersey Cash 4 lottery ticket. The winner will split the jackpot of $409,076 four ways with the three other winning tickets. An 81-year-old pedestrian from Tappan was flown to a local hospital by medical chopper after being struck by a pickup truck in Northvale early Friday, police said. The latest great bear hunt left one up a Waldwick tree as police pursuers gathered below. Uniformed officers from Midland Park, Ridgewood and Waldwick chased the furry forager through area yards. The bear played in trash, sunbathed on the grass, then hustled his tuchus up a tree behind a home on Evergreen Street around lunchtime. Right behind was intrepid photographer Boyd Loving.
