21-Year-Old Woman Struck, Killed By Garbage Truck Yards From Nassau County Mall

Police released new details after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a garbage truck just yards from a Long Island shopping mall.

The incident happened in Carle Place near the intersection of Old Country Road and Glen Cove Road, near Roosevelt Field Mall, at around 5:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

Nassau County Police said a 21-year-old woman was attempting to cross Old Country Road northbound when she was struck by a garbage truck.

The victim suffered serious injuries to her head and body, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Nassau County Police medics.

No other vehicles were involved and nobody else was injured. The garbage truck driver remained at the scene.
