Hudson Valley Fire Leaves 24 Homeless, Injures 2
At least two residential buildings were destroyed during a two-alarm fire in the Hudson Valley that left 24 people homeless. The incident occurred in Orange County at 11:20 p.m. on Monday, April 8, at 59 and 61 Carter St., in the city of Newburgh. According to Mike Neppl, a spokesman for the Newburgh Fire Department, arriving units found the rear of 59 and 61 Carter Street fully involved with fire, which was spreading to the interior of the buildings. Woman Killed, Son Critically Injured After Massive Fire Breaks Out At Home In Hudson Valley
A woman was killed and her 29-year-old son was critically injured during a house fire in the Hudson Valley. The blaze broke out in Orange County around 10:50 p.m., Wednesday, June 15 in the city of Newburgh at 68 Lander St. When an assistant fire chief arrived on the scene, for a reported kitchen fire, he found a large volume of smoke coming from all three floors of a middle-of-the-block, row-type brick house, with visible fire on the first and second floor, said Chief Francis Spinelli, of the city Newburgh Fire Department. Dog Stuck On Ice Rescued By Firefighters In Hudson Valley
Some fast-acting first responders in the Hudson Valley came to the aid of a puppy who found itself in a perilous situation in frozen waters. In Orange County, at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, member of the Newburgh Fire Department responded to the Washington Street boat launch, where there was a report of a dog that found itself stuck out on the ice. Man Dies After Jumping From Bridge In Hudson Valley
A man from the region was killed after jumping from a Hudson Valley bridge. The incident took around 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, in Dutchess County where the New York State Police began investigating a report of a man jumping from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in Beacon. According to Trooper AJ Hicks, the Newburgh Fire Department marine unit located Orange County resident Lester R. Banta, age 55, of Maybrook. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Newburgh Fire Department Unveils New Recruits, Announces Promotions
The Newburgh Fire Department's two new recruits and a handful of promotions were announced at a special ceremony. Wytoskia T. Balty and Rigoberto Medina officially became probationary firefighters on Thursday, said Fire Chief Terry Ahlers. The men will begin training at the New York State Fire Academy this weekend and continue for the next 11 weeks. Other promotions include Michael Kiernan who was promoted to Lieutenant. Man Found Dead Inside Home During Two-Alarm Fire In Area
A man was found dead inside a multi-family home during a fire in Newburgh late Friday. The man was found when members of the Newburgh Fire Department were dispatched to a fire at 6½ Farrington St. at 11:43 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8, said Terry Ahlers, Newburgh's acting fire chief. More than 50 firefighters attacked a three-alarm fire at an auto body and towing shop in Newburgh. The blaze, at Dennis Towing and Auto Body at 842 Broadway, broke out around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 in Newburgh, said the Newburgh Fire Department. Arriving firefighters found heavy fire with the building engulfed in flames, the department said. One person had been inside the building but was able to escape without incident. Three-Alarm Fire Destroys Old Newburgh Lumberyard
A three-alarm fire in Orange County destroyed three building of the old Newburgh lumberyard in addition to damaging two other buildings, according to the Newburgh Fire Department. Fire Chief Terry Ahlers said the department received the first call on the fire at located at Carpenter Avenue and First Street, around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday and the first crews arrived on scene within about two minutes.
