Albany County resident Devvan Farina, age 39, of Albany, was arrested on multiple felony charges, including burglary, on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Bethlehem Police said Farina stole from multiple homes while working as a paramedic for the Albany County Sheriff’s Office in Bethlehem and a firefighter for the city of Troy. Firefighter Shortage In Area Blamed On Required Paramedic Certification, Report Says
A shortage of firefighters in one Capital District city is being blamed on a requirement that new hires be paramedic certified, CBS6 reports. Eric Wisher, the president of the union that represents Troy firefighters, told the outlet that despite recently hiring three new recruits, the department is still short of 12 firefighters. He told CBS6 the crux of the problem is that new hires are required to have paramedic certification instead of an EMT certification.
