Police and fire officials were kept busy on both sides of the river on Sunday searching for reported jumpers from the Mid-Hudson Bridge and the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.
The first report of a person jumping came into the New York State police around 7 p.m., from a driver that had seen a woman leaning on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, said Melissa McMorris with the New York State police.
"By the time police and fire arrived the woman had already jumped from the bridge," she said.
Both the City of Beacon and Newburgh firefighters searched for the woman for two hours before locating her body. Her car was found on the side of the road, she added.
McMorris said the victim was a 48-year-old Beacon resident.
At roughly the same time, City of Poughkeepsie police received a report of a man jumping from Mid-Huson Bridge, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark.
Again, a passing motorist had called in the report, he said.
Police and fire officials, with help from the New York State police searched for more than hour before giving up the search with no results, said City of Poughkeepsie Fire Chief Mark Johnson.
