'Sexually Violent' Offender Reports Move In Poughkeepsie

A registered "sexually violent" and "predicate" offender convicted of sexually abusing a child has reported an address change in Dutchess County.

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Friday to Dutchess residents regarding the residency of 50-year-old Michael Simmons, who has moved to an apartment on Lent Street in Poughkeepsie.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Simmons as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent and predicate offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Simmons had sexual conduct with two or more children under the age of 17 in 2002. He was arrested by the Amsterdam City Police Department and convicted in 2004. Simmons was sentenced to four years in state prison. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Poughkeepsie City Police Department.
