New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced a statewide surge in law enforcement patrols and safety measures to protect travelers during Thanksgiving week, one of the busiest and riskiest times for road travel. Scheduled roadwork could delay Long Island drivers during the week of Thanksgiving. In the Town of Huntington, crews will conduct overnight closures at the interchange of the Long Island Expressway and State Route 110 (Broad Hollow Road) on the night of Tuesday, Nov. 26. The center and right lanes on northbound State Route 110 will be closed at the bridge over the LIE from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, according to the New York State Department of Transportation. Expect plenty of company on the roads as you head to grandma’s house. A record 79.9 million travelers are expected to head 50 miles or more from home over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, AAA forecasts. That’s up 1.7 million over last year. A major airport no-no could cost a Long Island traveler thousands of dollars. The Suffolk County man, of Halesite, was found with a loaded gun in his carry-on bag during a security screening at LaGuardia Airport on Thursday, Sept. 5, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said. An investment broker who admitted to using his client’s money on luxury cars, plane tickets, and more has received his prison sentence. Peter Quartararo of Glen Cove was sentenced to two-and-a-half to seven-and-a-half years in prison on Friday, June 14, the Nassau County District Attorney announced. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that New Yorkers can now have a digital version of their state-issued driver's license or identification right on their smartphones.
