19: Grocery Workers Should Be Classified As First Responders, Stop & Shop, Union Say
Stop & Shop and the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union are calling on federal and state governments to designate associates at grocery stores as “extended first responders” or “emergency personnel.” Stop & Shop and UFCW additionally announced that a 10-percent increase in pay for union hourly store associates would be extended through Saturday, May 30. Man Killed In ATV Crash In Area, State Police Say
A 49-year-old man was killed in an ATV accident after crashing into a chain that was stretched across a service road. The incident involving Michael S. Morris, of Wallkill, happened around 1 p.m., Saturday, April 11, on Cottage Street in the Village of Wallkill, said Trooper Steven Nevel, spokesman for the New York State Police. An investigation revealed that Morris was riding a 2001 Honda ATV on a service road off of Cottage Street when he struck a chain that was extended across the service road causing him to fall off of the ATV, Nevel said. Airmont Man Nabbed After Brief Chase For Allegedly Stabbing His Brother
Ramapo Police nabbed an Airmont man wanted for attempted homicide who had barricaded himself in a bedroom and then climbed out a second-floor window and fled on foot. The incident took place around 7:56 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19, when Ramapo Police responded to a residential complex in the village of Airmont for a report of a domestic dispute, Ramapo Police said. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a 32-year-old man who had been stabbed several times in the torso by his brother, police said.
