Just before 9 p.m., police got a call reporting a boat fire in the Long Island Sound near Hart Island, a DCPI spokesperson said. Two Rescued After Small Plane Crashes Into Water Near Remote Island, Coast Guard Says Two people were pulled from the water in Connecticut after a plane went down off the coast near the Thimble Islands on Sunday morning, according to the US Coast Guard. Their aircraft went down in the water southeast of the Thimble Islands, near Branford, the US Coast Guard said in a statement on June 1. According to the 2025 Long Island Sound Beach Report released Tuesday, May 20, by Save the Sound, 72% of beaches on both the New York and Connecticut sides earned an A or B for water quality during the 2024 swimming season.
