A 33-year-old Bronx, NY man has been charged with DWI in a boat explosion that forced 22 people into the water and 23 to the hospital on Saturday, June 7, officials said. Just before 9 p.m., police got a call reporting a boat fire in the Long Island Sound near Hart Island, a DCPI spokesperson said. The NYPD harbor and aviation units responded, as did the FDNY to assist in the rescue. Two Rescued After Small Plane Crashes Into Water Near Remote Island, Coast Guard Says
Two people were pulled from the water in Connecticut after a plane went down off the coast near the Thimble Islands on Sunday morning, according to the US Coast Guard. Their aircraft went down in the water southeast of the Thimble Islands, near Branford, the US Coast Guard said in a statement on June 1. The Coast Guard Station in New Haven responded to the crash site in the Long Island Sound and pulled both survivors from the water. With summer around the corner, swimmers across Long Island Sound have reason to celebrate — mostly. According to the 2025 Long Island Sound Beach Report released Tuesday, May 20, by Save the Sound, 72% of beaches on both the New York and Connecticut sides earned an A or B for water quality during the 2024 swimming season.
