As Frigid Air Arrives, Warming Centers Open In Ramapo

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- With bitter, cold temperatures and wind chills in the teens expected by Thursday, the Town of Ramapo is opening warming centers across the area for those who are homeless or don't have adequate heat at home.

Warming Centers will open in Ramapo for the upcoming cold blast.

The town decided to open the center after forecasters called for Thursday to be cloudy with the high temperatures struggling to reach the low 20s with real-feel temps in the single digits during the day and overnight lows of 10 degrees in the Lower Hudson Valley.

Each of the locations listed below has been designated as warming centers by Supervisor Christopher P. St. Lawrence and the Ramapo Town Board. They may be opened for extended periods of time as the need arises.

Please take note: A warming center is a heated facility in which residents can find safe refuge from extreme weather. There are no other services offered at the facilities.

Residents are advised to call and confirm a center is opening before venturing out and to let the facility staff know you are there once you arrive.

For immediate emergency assistance, residents should contact 911 or the Ramapo Police Department at 845-357-2400.
