State Sues Manufacturers Of Foam That Contaminated Drinking Water In Area New York State is suing the 3M Company and five other companies to recover the cost for environmental cleanup and natural resource damages caused by the toxic chemicals in firefighting foam they manufacture. The lawsuit, the first of its kind, says the use of the foam at five military and civilian airports including Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, caused a public nuisance by threatening public health, contaminating the environment, damaging natural resources, and interfering with the public's use and enjoyment of these resources. Three-Alarm Fire Destroys Old Newburgh Lumberyard A three-alarm fire in Orange County destroyed three building of the old Newburgh lumberyard in addition to damaging two other buildings, according to the Newburgh Fire Department. Fire Chief Terry Ahlers said the department received the first call on the fire at located at Carpenter Avenue and First Street, around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday and the first crews arrived on scene within about two minutes. With heavy winds whipping between the buildings and low water pressure, Ahlers said the fire quickly grew to a two-alarm and then three-alarm as it jumped to adjacent buildings. The water company …
