Rare Possible Bobcat Sighting Reported On Long Island
Police are searching for what could be a bobcat after receiving a report of a wild cat on Long Island. The sighting took place in Suffolk County in the area of Boulevard Avenue in West Islip around 10:40 a.m., Tuesday, July 26. Police responded to the area and the animal was not located, said the Suffolk County Police. The Department of Environmental Conservation and the Putnam County Sheriff's Department are searching for a crossbow hunter who illegally shot a fledgling red-tailed hawk that managed to live with an arrow lodged in its body for weeks before passing away, despite the best efforts of environmental rehabilitators. Injured Hawk Rescued In Rockland
Police officers came to the rescue of an injured hawk that was found in the yard of a Bardonia home and was unable to fly. Members of the Clarkstown Police Department were alerted to an injured hawk on L’Ambiance Court in Bardonia on Saturday, Aug. 10. Police said that the hawk had an injured wing, and was unable to fly. It has since been turned over to animal rescue officials in Rockland County for rest and rehabilitation. Grin And Bear It: Orphaned Cub Rescued In Hudson Valley
Sometimes, it takes a village. Police in the area helped track down a female bear cub who had gotten separated from her mother over the weekend. On Friday, June 15, members of the Warwick Police Department issued an assist to the New York State Environmental Police in tracking and taking an orphaned bear cub into custody. Following the joint effort, officers were able to corral the cub, who has been safely transported to an Orange County wildlife rehabilitation facility.
