Expect Delays: Weeks Of Full Closures Scheduled On Long Island Expressway
Drivers are being warned about weeks of overnight closures scheduled for a portion of the Long Island Expressway. Beginning Monday, April 10, both directions of I-495 will be closed nightly at exit 65 (Suffolk County Route 16) in the Town of Brookhaven from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to the Department of Transportation. Full Closure Scheduled On Long Island Expressway
Scheduled roadwork on the Long Island Expressway could spell delays for drivers this week. The eastbound lanes of I-495 are set to close from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 to 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, near Commack Road in the Town of Huntington, according to the Department of Transportation. In the meantime, traffic will be detoured onto the South Service Road. Transportation officials said the closure will allow road crews to complete scheduled bridge work. NY State Police, DOT Preparing For Major Nor'easter Bringing Heavy Snowfall, Strong Winds
In preparation for the first significant snowfall of the season, New York State Police are encouraging motorists to exercise caution and avoid all unnecessary travel late Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 16 into early Thursday afternoon, Dec. 17. Troopers will be out across the region checking all major routes of travel to ensure that motorists are as safe as possible, the department said.
