A mountain lion sighting is creating quite a stir on social media. An Ulster County man shared a photo of the mountain lion that was on the prowl on Floyd Ackert Road in the Town of Esopus that has gone viral. Nearly three weeks into the investigation into a missing 36-year-old teacher in the Hudson Valley, police continue to follow-up on leads as they attempt to locate Jessica Lopez. Jessica Lopez - also known as Yessica Lopez - was reported missing to the City of Newburgh Police Department on Sunday, Nov. 3, after she spent time with a friend at Chili’s in Newburgh, according to her family. Manhattan is earning its title as a “concrete jungle” with coyote sightings surging as the weather warms up. The sightings have been highest in upper Manhattan - reportedly up to 35 this year, already six times more than the amount reported two years ago, according to the city’s Parks Department. With the weather warming up, local law enforcement agencies are warning area residents to be aware of the possibility of coyote sightings. Police in the area noted that “during this time of year, we tend to have an increase in coyote sightings. From March to May, coyotes typically have their pups and begin to look for more food. Car Ignites After Illegal Dutchess County Brush Fire
After an illegally set brush fire spread to a car, sending it into flames, residents across the area are being warned not to burn any brush until a ban is lifted in May. The fire broke out around 12:40 p.m. Monday in the area of Sylvan Lake Road in the town of Beekman, according to Lt. Shawn Castano of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. An Investigation into the fire revealed that a local resident was burning brush in violation of the New York State DEC Burn Ban.
