Escapees Had Help Inside Prison, But None While On The Lam, Report Says

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Officials and law enforcement authorities interviewed by The Wall Street Journal said while convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat appear to have had help inside Clinton Correctional Facility before their brazen June 6 escape, they did not receive any assistance once they escaped.

In addition, the lack of a Plan B after their original getaway plan failed led to desperation on the part of the prisoners, the report said.

The 35-year-old Sweat was shot and captured by New York State Police on June 28 in Constable, N.Y., less than two miles south of the Canadian border. He was apprehended two days after fellow escapee Richard Matt was shot and killed by police in Duane, N.Y., just south of a cabin in Malone, N.Y., the two were hiding out in.
