A potent, late autumn storm is bringing flooding and road closures to parts of the region. Flood watches or warnings are up for the entire Capital Region with rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches expected through Monday night, Dec. 18, according to the National Weather Service in Albany. Higher rainfall accumulations are expected on east and southeast-facing slopes of the eastern Catskills. Five people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash that caused the closure of a stretch of the Taconic State Parkway. It happened in Dutchess County on Friday, Nov. 24 on the northbound side in La Grange. A Columbia County man, age 22, from the city of Hudson, was operating a 2010 Chevy Colorado in the right lane, according to Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police. A man is dead following a fiery, two-vehicle crash in the region that also left a woman hospitalized. The Columbia County wreck happened at around 5:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, in the town of Greenport on State Route 23. Troopers and firefighters from the Greenport Fire Department responded to the intersection of Ponderosa Drive where they found two vehicles fully engulfed in flames, according to New York State Police. The top-prize winning Take 5 ticket, worth $34,210, was sold in Columbia County at the Sunoco Mart in Copake, located at 1678 Church Street. It was sold for the evening drawing held on Saturday, Sept. 23, New York Lottery announced. Take 5 numbers are drawn from a field of one through 39. Burglar Who Targeted Capital Region Businesses Nabbed Over Year Later, Police Say
A suspected burglar is facing charges more than a year after allegedly targeting multiple businesses in the region. Columbia County resident James Smith, age 52, of Hudson, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 20, in connection with a burglary at a Brunswick business in Rensselaer County in April 2022. According to New York State Police, Smith broke into a business on Hoosick Road at around 4:40 a.m. on April 3, 2022. The business was closed and unoccupied at the time. He then tried breaking into a nearby restaurant with a burglary tool on the same day, but was unable to get inside, troopers said…

Capital Region Man Sexually Abuses Young Child, Police Say
A 52-year-old man from the region is facing charges after allegedly sexually abusing a young child. Columbia County resident Robert Schaefer, of Ghent, was arrested Monday, Sept. 18, by New York State Police. According to troopers, Schaefer sexually abused a victim under the age of 11. Investigators did not elaborate on his relationship to the alleged victim. Schaefer is charged with felony sexual abuse and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned in Kinderhook Court, where a judge ordered him held at the Columbia County jail on $5,000 cash bail.

Police are asking for help in locating a man from the region who has been missing for over two months. Columbia County resident Robert Coons was last seen Thursday morning, July 6, in the city of Hudson near Columbia and North 3rd streets, according to Hudson City Police. The location is right outside the Columbia County Human Services building. At the time of his disappearance, Coons was wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt. Police are investigating a horrific double-fatal overnight crash in the region. It happened around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 near the New York/Massachusetts border in Columbia County, in the town of New Lebanon. New York State Police said an investigation determined a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek operated by Western Massachusetts resident Erica C.
