First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Route 9G and West Market Street in Red Hook at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Thursday night, following reports of a two-car head-on crash.
Police said that the subsequent investigation determined that a 65-year-old Tivoli woman was traveling northbound on Route 9G when California resident Brian Shickle Jr., 30, failed to yield the right of way and made a left-hand turn from Route 9G to West Market Street, causing the head-on collision.
The woman suffered minor injuries and was transported to Northern Dutchess Hospital for further treatment. Her condition was not immediately available on Friday.
During the interview at the scene of the accident, police said that officers determined that Shickle was intoxicated, and when they attempted to place him under arrest, Shickle physically resisted before he could be taken into custody.
Shickle was charged with a felony count of driving while intoxicated, due to a misdemeanor DWI conviction in 2013, as well as resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, both misdemeanors. Following arraignment, Shickles was released and is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
