The custom truck distributor, a fan of all things automotive, posted a 1932 photograph of Franklin Delano Roosevelt relaxing in his car after a drive at Springwood, his birthplace and lifelong home in Hyde Park.
FDR served as president from 1933-45. He was the only American president to be elected four times.
Although his legs had been weakened by a bout with polio in 1921, FDR could drive.
His private vehicles were modified with hand controls.
One of his sporty rides was a Plymouth PA Phaeton, which he used at Warm Springs, Ga.
According to usspotomac.org, one of the Phaeton’s “noteworthy” features was an automatic cigarette dispenser.
The clever device not only stored the president’s ubiquitous smokes but also delivered them to his hand, lit and ready to smoke, usspotomac.org said.
