State Awards $3.5M For Shoreline Restoration At Long Island Beaches
New York State will spend millions of dollars rebuilding Long Island beaches. The state has allocated $3.5 million for shoreline restoration projects at Tobay and Overlook beaches in the wake of significant storm damage and erosion. Fortification work will include dredging the Fire Island Inlet and placing nearly 1.25 million cubic yards of sand at Gilgo State Park, Tobay Beach, and Overlook Beach. A new tornado just touched down in New York in what has been a historic year for twisters in the state. There have now been 29 tornadoes in New York this year, breaking the record of 25 in 1992. At least six homes were heavily damaged and roads were washed out following a powerful storm system that brought drenching rain and widespread flooding to parts of New York and Connecticut. Tornado Confirmed In Hudson Valley As Debby Swept Through Northeast: Here's When, Where
A tornado touched down in the Hudson Valley as post-Tropical Depression Debby swept through the Northeast. The incident happened at 5:52 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, in Ulster County near the New York State Thruway interchange in the town of New Paltz. "We have patrolled the surrounding area and have not found any damage to structures or reported injuries," the New Paltz Police Department reports. 5 Tornadoes Hit NY During Round Of Severe Storms, With 1 Fatality Reported
One person was killed during a two-and-a-half hour span when at least five tornadoes touched down in New York State this week, the National Weather Service announced following a survey of the damage, and more confirmations could be coming. The time frame for the twisters on Tuesday afternoon, July 16, was from 3 p.m. to around 5:30 p.m. Four of the five were rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, the second-weakest of the six levels. Tornado May Have Touched Down In Hudson Valley During Round Of Severe Storms
An investigation is underway to determine if a tornado touched down in the Hudson Valley during a round of severe storms on Thursday, May 23. The probe is focusing on the Orange County village of Greenwood Lake.
