20-Year-Old Injures Woman In Street Takeover In Patchogue, Police Say
A week after a woman was injured in a so-called street takeover on Long Island, police arrested a suspect. The incident happened in Patchogue, at the Gateway Plaza on Sunrise Highway, at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6. Suffolk County Police said a 19-year-old Holbrook woman was watching a care takeover when she was struck by an Infiniti sedan. Help is on the way for Long Island homeowners who were impacted by severe flooding. Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a disaster emergency for Suffolk County on Friday, Aug. 23, following this week’s record rainfall that resulted in major flooding to homes and businesses, and washed out several roads. Full Closure Set For Portion Of Sunrise Highway In Suffolk County
Upcoming road work could spell delays for Long Island drivers. In Suffolk County, the eastbound Sunrise Highway (Route 27) will close in the town of Brookhaven from 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, until 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16. The closures will take place between exit 57S and Exit 58 while crews remove an overhead sign structure, the Department of Transportation said. Extended lane closures on the Long Island Expressway could spell delays for drivers in the coming months. In the town of Brookhaven, two lanes of westbound I-495 will close nightly between Exit 64 and Exit 67 from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. before all westbound lanes close until 5 a.m., the Department of Transportation said.
