These Are Top Public Elementary Schools In Nassau County, New Ranking Shows

The grades are in and these Long Island schools are head of the class.

After considering a number of key areas, the following Nassau County schools were ranked top 5 in Niche’s 2025 “Best Public Elementary Schools in Nassau County” report:

No. 1 - Village Elementary School in Syosset

No. 2 - Walt Whitman Elementary School in Woodbury

No. 3 - South Grove Elementary School in Syosset

No. 4 - Jeffrey Ratner Robert Seaman Elementary School in Jericho

No. 5 - Baylis Elementary School in Plainview

All five elementary schools earned an overall grade of A+, receiving top marks in the academics and teachers categories.

Most hold an A- grade in the diversity category, though Walt Whitman Elementary School holds a B+.

Students at each school also enjoy a lower student-teacher ratio than the national average of 17 to one. The best, 11 to one, were found at Village, South Grove, and Baylis.

Looking at math scores, students at Seaman Elementary fared the best on standardized exams, with 92-percent scoring at or above proficiency.
