Westhampton Beach resident Matthew Eckart, 37, sought to visit an inmate shortly after 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the prison.

According to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, upon arrival at the facility, a computer check of DMV records determined that Eckart’s driver’s license was restricted, and he was required to drive with an Ignition Interlock Device due to a previous DWI conviction.

However, Eckart’s vehicle was not equipped with such a device.

Eckart was arrested and charged with circumventing a court-ordered interlock device. He was transported to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Headquarters to be processed on the charge. No return court date has been scheduled.
