Elmer Martinez, age 44, of Central Islip, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual conduct against a child in Suffolk County Court on Friday, March 17.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Martinez admitted that he began molesting the girl in the fall of 2014, when she was 10 years old. Investigators said the abuse escalated to acts of sexual intercourse, including oral and anal sexual conduct.
Martinez continued abusing the child for years, often threatening her to prevent her from reporting the abuse, prosecutors said. Despite those threats, the victim contacted police in June 2020.
“Innocent children should never once have to experience the pain and trauma of sexual abuse, let alone for years,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement.
“This child’s bravery in coming forward gave my prosecutors the ability to bring this defendant to justice. Thankfully, as a result of this guilty plea, this child will not have to be subject to trial and cross-examination.”
Martinez now faces up to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years of post-release supervision. Sentencing is set for Friday, May 5.
