Animal Cruelty: Long Island Man Charged For Neglecting Dog, SPCA Says

A Long Island man has been charged after he allegedly severely neglected his 5-year-old dog.

The Suffolk County SPCA announced on Monday, May 15 that Naheem A. Scafe, aged 31, of Amityville, was charged with one count of animal cruelty.

SPCA officers allegedly responded to the Babylon Animal Shelter, where they saw Dollar, a 5-year-old bulldog.

Dollar was severely emaciated and neglected and had been brought to the shelter by Animal Control covered in urine, dirt, and filth.

When examined, officials found that Dollar had sores on his tongue, urine scalding to his scrotum, and inflammation and swelling to his legs due to neglected hygiene.

Scafe is due to appear in First District court on Wednesday, May 31.
