Tropical Storm Update: Here's Latest On Josephine's Path, Strength
Josephine, which was upgraded from a Tropical Depression to a Tropical Storm three days ago, is continuing its west-northwest movement. It has maximum sustained winds around 40 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center said in a brand-new advisory issued Sunday morning, Aug. 16. It's projected to bring 1 to 3 inches of rain to parts of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Tracking Isaias: Strong Winds That Could Cause Power Outages, Possible Tornadoes Among Threats
This story has been updated. The eye of Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to track near the New York/Connecticut border after it arrives in the region on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 4. Drenching rain may lead to flooding and winds between 35 to 45 miles per hour with gusts as high as 60 to 65 mph could cause power outages. In addition, the storm may be accompanied by isolated tornadoes, especially near coastal areas. Tornado Watch Issued, With 70 MPH Wind Gusts, Large Hail Also Possible
A Tornado Watch has just been issued for much of the region. It's in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2. Main threats include the potential for tornadoes, scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, and isolated large hail. Scattered severe thunderstorms are also expected through around 11 p.m. Sunday.
