Police found the 19-year-old Bloomingdale resident unconscious and breathing slowly, Valdes said. Officers saw signs of drug use and used Narcan, a nasal spray to counteract an opiate overdose, she said.
The man recovered after the Narcan spray and admitted to using heroin, the prosecutor said.
Police also found several wax paper folds often used for heroin, she said.
Officers in Passaic County started training with Narcan in August 2014. The Bloomingdale save was the first for any law enforcement agency in the county in 2016, Valdes said.
