PASSAIC COUNTY, N.J. -- Gov. Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency for New Jersey in anticipation of hurricane Joaquin, according to NorthJersey.com.

Experts have been tracking the storm and are still unsure when, where or how strong Joaquin will be when it makes landfall. The possibility still exists that the storm will hit New Jersey directly as a tropical storm and cause coastal flooding and heavy beach erosion, NorthJersey.com said.

If the storm makes landfall in the Garden State, a possibility that carries a low level of confidence among meteorologists, it will arrive Monday night into Tuesday, NorthJersey.com reported.
