Seven Legionnaire's Disease Cases Found In Mercer County Water System: Health Department
Legionnaires’ Disease has been detected in the Trenton Water Works water supply, state authorities said. Seven people contracted the disease and two people have died since October 2022 in Mercer County, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. The seven newest cases occurred in Trenton, Ewing Township, Lawrence Township, and Hamilton Township, the state said. Disease-Causing Bacteria Found In Central Jersey Drinking Water
Bacteria that causes a certain type of pneumonia was found in a majority of water samples from about 30 Central Jersey homes, authorities announced. Legionella bacteria — which causes Legionnaires' disease — was found in water samples collected from more than half of 30 homes within several municipalities served by Trenton Water Works (TWW), the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) said Saturday, Oct. 15. More Cases, Another Death Reported In NJ Legionnaires' Outbreak
Five more people have contracted Legionnaires’ disease in Mercer County, and there has been a third fatality since the outbreak began last summer, authorities said. A total of nine cases of the disease -- a type of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria -- are under investigation by the New Jersey Department of Health.
